Holidays are upon us!

November 24, 2009

The Thanksgiving craft is done. Thanksgiving itself is a day or so away. The stores are packed already. It must be time for Mr. Schacht’s holiday celebration. Scaled down a bit from past years, this year’s program will be a very special storytime with two days to choose from! There will be an evening storytime on December 15 at 7:00. The encore will be on Thursday, December 17 at 10:00. After the December 17th storytime, we are encouraging everyone to stay for a holiday craft. The craft will be available from 11:00 to 9:00 and as supplies last. The actual craft is TBA.

After the holidays, we will be gearing up for the winter storytime session. Registration begins on January 4 and will continue until the classes fill up. Storytimes will begin January 19 and will run until March 10. As usual, we will have storytimes for children aged birth to 5 years (lapsit birth-2 years, Toddler 2-3 1/2 years, Preschool 3 1/2 years to 5). Residents of Romeo-Washington-Bruce and families residing within the Romeo Community Schools district will be given first priority. Children from other communities will be placed on a wait list and called if there is space in the desired class once the session has started.

On Saturday, November 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., bring your creativity and come on in to the library for a Thanksgiving craft. We will be making festive placements/collages (whichever one you want it to be). Fun for children of all ages.

October 24 @ 2:00. Join us for a fun-filled hour of crafts, games, and a haunted coatroom. Lots of spooky fun for children of all ages.

Be sure to go trick-or-treating in the village before the party! The downtown merchants will be passing out treats and the Parks and Rec department will be hosting their own halloween celebration in the gazebo. That fun starts at 11:00!

Also, in neighboring Ray Township…Also, on October 24…trick or treat at Wolcott Mill Farm Learning Center from 6-9 pm.  I think the fee is $5 per child.  Besides trick 0r treating at the various farm buildings, it looks like they will have crafts, a movie, games, and, atleast in past years, a “haunted” barn.  My son loved the haunted barn when he was about 9 years old.

I do the Wednesday morning preschool storytime. I like to post my tentative themes on my blog so that parents have an idea of what each week will be.

September 30: Autumn Leaves

Romeo Elementary schools have a new reading contest to participate in….In commemoration of International Literacy Day and Romeo Harvest Day, The Romeo Rotary is sponsoring a Reading Contest, open to all elementary students in the Romeo School District. The Romeo District Library is partnering with the Rotary in implementing this contest. The basic premise is similar to our Summer Reading Program. The students read for atleast 15 minutes a day for 20 days. When the time has been completed, the reading logs are turned in to their teacher or in to the Kezar Library. The classroom with the most participants will win $50 worth of boardgames. The school with the most participants will win $100 worth of books for their school media center. All participants will receive a ribbon, about a week after the contest ends on October 3.

Hopefully, this will be a fun way to kick off the new school year!

Celebrate Kindergarten!

August 18, 2009

Just a reminder!  All new kindergarteners are welcome to come and join us for a special storytime event!  We will be celebrating the upcoming first day of kindergarten on Wednesday, August 26th at 10:00 a.m.  Come and listen to stories about school and kindergarten and make a “note keeper” magnet for your refrigerator.

New Graphic Novels!

August 8, 2009

Remember the Boxcar Children? The old classic is still going strong and now there are Graphic Novel versions to enjoy.  Stop by the library and pick one up!  Loaded with colorful comic-style illustrations and comic-style action, these are sure to be the next big thing!

I just recently read The Secret by Beverly Lewis. This is the first volume in the Seasons of Grace series.  I really enjoy Amish fiction and Beverly Lewis does it best!

I am currently revisiting an old favorite author, Janette Oke.  She has written a book with another author, Davis Bunn.  Actually, they are writing a series called Acts of Faith, the first one is The Centurian’s Wife…It is a very gripping and compelling work of Christian Fiction…I highly recommend it!

One More Day!
